Gestures of Kindness

Our boys grew up playing baseball together. His wife, a professional golfer, succumbed to cancer more than a decade ago. He recently fell, and broke a hip. Surgery. Rehab. A broken, lonely, life.

I reached out to him today, and connected after a few months. He seemed out of sorts. Not sure I helped much, but I figured a gesture of kindness couldn’t hurt. He has promised to call me for a brew.

We need compassion and kindness when the chips are down. When life throws us a curveball. When we get isolated.

All of us can certainly do our part to offer that shoulder, and words of kindness, to those that need it the most. It may be simple for us — it probably means the world to them.
